Many cultures, including the Chinese, do not believe in the separation of the Heart and the Mind (body and spirit). They approach health, exercise and well-being in a more holistic fashion, and believe that true health comes from a balanced mind, body and spirit. They are not separate components, but together make an individual whole and complete. If the spirit is sick, the body will follow, and vice-versa. The West has a similar idea that you can 'worry' youself sick (stress), or 'believe' (or pray) yourself well.

HeartMind (Xin) is their version of our individual words for "Heart" and "Mind". This 'center' is located in the chest. Wholeness, health and well-being can not be found solely in the heart (body) or the head (mind/spirit), but is instead one word: HeartMind. It is the integration of mind, body and spirit. This is the essence of HeartMind Qigong and TaiChi.
